About the Journal

The Journal of Global Health (JoGH) is an international peer-reviewed journal published by the International Society of Global Health (ISoGH), a not-for-profit company registered in the UK. We welcome editorials, news, viewpoints, original research articles, and reviews from scholars and professionals working in all fields of global health. Thematically, we focus on works which seek to improve our understanding of global health and provide practice guidelines to address health-related issues in the developed and developing world.

JoGH adheres to the highest publication and peer review standards. All submitted original research articles (inclusive of reviews) undergo editorial scrutiny, after which the ones deemed of sufficient quality and appropriate scope are sent out for external assessment by at least two reviewers. Viewpoints are reviewed by at least one external reviewer and one internal reviewer from the Editorial Team or Editorial Board. Editorials and News do not undergo the formal process of peer review, and they are reviewed internally by the journal editors. For full details, see our Editorial Policies.

Publication schedule, Open Access, and publication fees

JoGH publishes a single volume annually, with the material being published continuously throughout the year in Open Access (OA) immediately after the completion of the production process. In providing OA publication, we allow policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders – especially those in developing countries – immediate access to relevant data and knowledge that might support evidence-based decision-making in their contexts.

As a fully OA journal, we sustain our work, and that of our editors, reviewers, and our production and technical team, solely through article processing charges (APCs, the details of which are presented on our website. These APCs are to be paid upon acceptance of the manuscript only; JoGH has NO article submission charges.

The decisions on the acceptance or rejection of submitted papers are not in any way related to the ability of authors to pay the fee, as the fee negotiation is handled separately by JoGH’s administrative staff. The APC may be waived for authors from low-resource settings who do not have funds to cover the fee cost and who declare their inability to pay in advance, upon submitting their article. We also offer APC reductions to ISoGH members and encourage all prospective authors to join the ISoGH to enjoy this and other benefits of membership.

Indexing, metrics, and archiving

JoGH is proud to be indexed in several databases, including Web of Science/Clarivate, PubMed, PubMed Central, Europe PMC, MEDLINE, Scopus, Google Scholar, Research.com, and the DOAJ.

We understand the complexity of citation metrics and the different criteria imposed by institutions worldwide. We therefore do not endorse any metric specifically. We provide a list of ones that might be pertinent to the research community below.

  • H5 index/median: 69/102 (12th in public health globally, according to Google Scholar)
  • Impact factor (5-year/2-year): 5.2/4.3 (according to Web of Science – Clarivate)
  • Citescore: 5.7 (according to Scopus – Elsevier)
